MidiALF firmware update 0.93a

New MidiALF firmware version 0.93a is available here.

Change log:

v0.93a
– allow note length longer than the sequence step length (thanks to shiftr @ MI forum)
– rotate sequence commands now rotate linked (16 and 32 step) sequences as a whole
– fixed problem with nonlinear progression sequence re-staring from where it was stopped
instead of the first step. Thanks to Jacob Karlstrom.

v0.93
– implemented note CV tuning, see command page/Tune
– implemented CV/Gate output support, compile with ENABLE_CV_OUTPUT define to enable it (see midialf/makefile)
– improved LFO UI: shape set to “none” stops LFO on both CC and CV, CC set to 0 prevents LFO on CC only

v0.92a
– rotating step encoder in step hold mode selects active step

v0.92
– added step hold mode toggled by SEL+CLK
– implemented received CC ignore/receive setting
– implemented root note setting learn mode
– implemented CC1/CC2 number learn mode
– implemented LFO1/2 CC number learn mode

Jack-o-mix

I was testing the fab’s ability to handle plated slots and ended with what looks like a pretty useful tool to convert 1.4″ connections to 3.5mm and back. Instead of maintaining a bunch of mixed jack conversion cables I can now just run standard ones through this tool.

MidiALF/CV board Rev 0.2

Here’s the second revision of MidiALF/CV board, streamlined and improved.

Schematics: alf_cv#1 alf_cv#2

Edit: Gate3/4 connectors were moved to the top of the PCB. The plan is to use taller stand offs on the back side so that these connectors fit in with the MIDI I/O connectors.

MidiALF CV extension progress

MidiALF CV extension breadboard prototype is done!

There are 4 x CV outputs with configurable range (-5+5V or 0-10V) .  Each CV output could be set to Note (1V/Oct), Velocity, CC1/2 or LFO1/2. There are also 4 Gate outputs with configurable polarity. Each Gate output could be set to Gate, Strobe, Clock, Sequence start strobe and LFO1/2. Gate outputs 3 and 4 are available only at expansion connector, there will be no on-board jacks for them due to lack of board space.

CV extension board will have the same size as the main board and will be attached to the stand offs at its bottom. There are 6 x 1/4″ jack connectors at the top (4 x CV, 2 x Gate). I also plan to add 3.5mm connectors so it could be built for Euro rack standard. PCB routing is going to be tricky due to the mixed signal nature of the board.
